As part of the book launch and marketing strategy, podcasts were recommended by the talented ladies at PRESStinely - Maira and Kristen.
A platform called PodMatch is connecting me with the podcast community. Based on a curated profile of me, that includes details of my journey and the book, the website proposes potential podcasts and hosts, for me to connect and explore mutual fit.
Like any other skill, it has been about mastery through repetition.
When I booked my first podcast, I was super excited but also nervous, I was stepping into new territory and the prospect of having to talk about myself was definitely way outside my comfort zone. I reached out to Kristen to ask if I needed any kind of ‘media training’ to prepare me, and just in case I was eventually invited by Oprah! Her response was a "Yes Oprah", and that she thought I would be a natural, which was very kind and reassuring.
My first podcast was such a great experience, with the lovely Kendra Rinaldi on her show, Grief, Gratitude and the Grey in Between (episode #153) that it helped me realise that a podcast is really just a conversation between two people getting to know one another.
Throughout my career in banking spanning over thirty years, I have worked with bosses and teams spread across different geographic locations, so communicating, presenting and building relationships over telephone calls, is a skill I have mastered through repetition over the years, which now stands me in good stead as I embark on the Podcast circuit.
Since that first podcast, I have recorded many more with a wide variety of hosts, from different cultures, geographies and points of view, but what all of them have in common is that they are just really great conversations between two people, talking about our life experiences.
I hope you have had a chance to catch some of them.
Stay tuned for more to come.
Regards,
Farah
